Truax's Two Goals Give Bison Soccer 3-1 Victory

by Scott Goode

Box Score
SEARCY – Harding junior forward Carter Truax scored his first two goals of the season Thursday to give the Bisons a 3-1 victory over Texas College in non-conference men's soccer play at the HU Soccer Field. It was Harding's second straight victory, coming on the heels of a 3-2 win over Lyon on Tuesday.

Harding (3-4-0) remained unbeaten in three games in Searcy this season and has won a school-record five straight home games dating to last season.

Texas College (1-4-2), a member of the NAIA Red River Conference, took a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute when Edgar Coria took a through-ball from Jony Rivera and beat Harding goalkeeper Andrew Flesher to the far post.

The lead did not last until halftime. Harding freshman Eric Swierc headed in a 50-yard free kick from senior Brady Wallace with just under two minutes left before the break. It was Swierc's team-leading fourth goal of the season.

Truax then scored the eventual game-winning goal only 59 seconds into the second half on a header off a Seth McGinnis cross. His second score came in the 62nd minute, this time on an assist from junior Odie Guzman.

Harding plays its next five games on the road beginning with the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Ark., on Tuesday, Sept. 18. The Bisons' next home game is a conference match-up with Delta State on Oct. 5.
